Hire bath design consultants who measure, design and sign the remodel in one visit.

Level helps bath remodelers and one-call bath brands hire design consultants who turn more of your appointments into signed remodels, and the sales managers who lead them. Siro's gap figure is the value of lifting a bottom rep to the median, not a measured loss. Siro doesn't split bath from kitchen.

How we screen

How we screen bath remodeling sellers

Before a rep reaches your shortlist, we check three things: close-rate history, pay history and references. Your interview time goes on sellers whose numbers hold up.
01Verified

Close-rate history

Close rate on issued appointments, and whether those were confirmed, pre-qualified homeowners or raw leads. A close rate means little without the lead quality behind it, so we verify the close-rate history and you should ask how those appointments were set.

02Verified

Pay history

Pay history from commission statements or W-2s. If your plan is base plus commission, the commission line on their statements tells you more than the base.

References

We run reference checks to confirm the history and track record the rep gave us, so you can interview with confidence.

For your interviews: our advice

Steps worth running yourself

Our checks confirm the numbers. Your interviews show you how a rep sells and whether they fit your team. We don’t run role-plays, ride-alongs or trial days, but they’re well worth your time. Here’s what we’d look for.

  • Role-play a walk-in shower for an older homeowner whose kids told them to wait. You want patience, a plain explanation of safety and a clear next step, not pressure.
  • Hand them a sketch and your price book and ask for a price. The best consultants price to your margin and keep their designs inside what your installers can actually build.
  • Ask how they answer the homeowner who wants to shop the price. Bath is a big ticket for a small room, so expect that objection.
  • Ask about their cancel rate and why deals cancelled. Signed in-home jobs can be cancelled for 3 business days under the FTC rule.

Pay plans

How bath remodelers pay design consultants

Here's what's published for bath sellers. Whatever the shape, the plans that keep good consultants are simple to check and paid on time.
  • Base plus commission

One bath design consultant posting advertised $100k/yr + commission + bonus, with company-provided leads. That's what one employer advertised, not what reps earned.

  • Percent of sale

Home improvement commissions typically run 6-12% of the sale (Pro Remodeler, 2018). The rate depends on lead quality and how much support the company gives, so compare plans on what the rep is given, not just the percentage.

  • Bonuses on add-ons

SPIFFs on accessories, safety features or premium wall systems reward the consultant for presenting the full job instead of the cheapest version. More on SPIFFs.

Read this before you quote the table

BLS counts W-2 employees only. Reps paid on a 1099 are left out, so the top of the market runs higher than this table. Job postings show what an employer advertised, not what anyone earned.

When to hire

When to add a design consultant

Remodelers Advantage puts first sales for a new remodeling salesperson at 3-6 months and full productivity at 6-12 months. That's remodeling broadly. Plan your cash for that ramp before you hire, not after.

Add a consultant when your calendar has more confirmed appointments than your current team can run well. A tired consultant on their third call of the day closes like one.

Example hire

Bath design consultant

Owner, bath remodeling company · Columbus, OH

A bath remodeler was turning away pre-set appointments because its only design consultant was fully booked.

We headhunted a one-call-close design consultant from a national bath brand, comfortable with financing and used to pricing from a set price book.

With a second consultant on the road, the company could run twice as many appointments each week.

FAQ

Hiring bath remodeling sales reps: questions owners ask.

  • What does a bath design consultant earn?

BLS doesn't publish a bath-only figure. Sales reps at residential building firms, which include remodelers, earn a median $64,150 on W-2 payrolls. One bath design consultant posting advertised $100k/yr + commission + bonus, which is what that employer offered, not what reps earned.

  • Do you recruit for one-call bath brands and franchises?

Yes. Franchise owners and independent bath remodelers hire the same seat: a consultant who can run a pre-set appointment and close on the visit.

  • Base plus commission or straight commission?

Either can work. A base helps you hire experienced people who can't go months without a paycheck, while straight commission puts more of the risk on the rep. Remodelers Advantage warns that commission-only pay for a first sales hire can attract reps who push underpriced deals.

  • Where do good bath consultants come from?

Mostly from bath remodeling itself. The best ones are already employed, usually at a bath or kitchen brand with a one-call close, and comfortable with financing. They aren't scrolling job boards, so we headhunt them and show them a better opportunity. After that, other one-call in-home sales: windows, siding, basement waterproofing, and solar closers changing trades. The common thread is running a full presentation and asking for the order on the visit.

  • How do you check a consultant's close rate?

We verify their close-rate history. Ask what it was counted on: confirmed appointments, raw leads or self-generated. We also check pay history using commission statements or W-2s, and run reference checks to confirm their history and track record. Role-plays are yours to run; the interview tips above cover what to listen for.

  • How fast can you fill a design consultant seat?

We aim to have a first candidate in front of you within 7 days of onboarding and getting your job description. A typical hire takes 21 days. Both vary by role and market, and on how much design work you expect from the consultant.

  • Do you place bath remodeling sales managers?

Yes, managers who coach the presentation, watch cancels and can still run an appointment. Same three checks: close-rate history, pay history and references.

Fill your bath calendar with consultants who close.

Tell us your appointment flow, territory and pay plan. We'll headhunt design consultants already selling bath remodels at the strongest companies in your market, check their close rate, pay history and references, and introduce you to the ones who'll turn more of your appointments into signed jobs.
