How it works

How we fill an in-home sales seat.

You tell us the seat. We headhunt proven closers from the best companies in your trade and check their close rate, pay history and references before you meet them. You interview and you hire, and you pay only when you hire.

Six steps

Who does what, from brief to hire.

Level runs the search and the two checks. You run the interviews and make the hire.
  1. 01You + Level

    Tell us the seat

A short call or the two-step brief. Trade, territory, where your leads come from, how many you issue a week, average ticket, the pay plan, and why the last rep left.

    Day 1

  2. 02Level

    We headhunt

We go after the top reps at the strongest companies in your trade and market: people with a proven track record who are already selling in the home. Then we make the case for why your company is a better place to earn. Where it fits, we also look at strong closers from a neighboring trade, like a solar closer moving into roofing or HVAC replacement.

    Starts straight away

  3. 03Level

We check close rate, pay and references

Before anyone reaches you, we check the close rate they claim against their history, their pay history from commission statements or W-2s, and their references, to confirm the track record. Only reps whose record holds up reach your shortlist, so your time goes on the people most likely to sell.

    First candidate within 7 days

  4. 04You

    You interview the shortlist

You meet the reps who checked out and run your own interview. Want to see them sell first? A ride-along or a role-play is your step, run your way. How to run one.

    Your schedule

  5. 05You

    You hire

You make the offer and the rep joins your company directly, on your pay plan. You pay Level a one-time placement fee at this step, not before.

Covered if it doesn't work out

If the rep doesn’t perform and is let go within 60 days of their first day, we find one replacement at no extra cost. How the guarantee works

What verified means

Two checks, done properly.

A close rate means little without the leads behind it, and a sales number means little without the pay that came from it. So we check both before you spend an hour in an interview.
01

Close-rate history

We ask for the rate and the formula behind it. Closes over issued leads, or over leads they sat? Then the lead mix. A rep closing mostly tech-generated leads and a rep closing cold marketed leads can post very different numbers and both be good at the job.

Siro’s rate comes from 53,389 recorded consultations and counts visits that moved toward a sale. ServiceTitan’s figures are targets, not averages. Industry-standard close-rate formula: No standard, which is why we ask for the formula along with the rate.

02

Pay history

Commission statements or W-2s. Pay records come from the company that paid them, so they’re harder to stretch than a résumé. When the numbers line up, you can hire with confidence.

Worked example, round numbers

Commission rate
8%
Paid last year
$96,000
So they sold about
$1.2M

If that rep tells you they sold $2M, the statements say otherwise. Plans with a draw, SPIFFs or a percent of gross profit take a closer read, but the logic is the same.

And their references

We also speak to people who worked with each rep to confirm the track record. Role-plays, ride-alongs and trial days stay with you, and the next section shows a simple way to run each one.

Your side of the hire

Want to see them sell? Here's how to run it.

Optional steps you can run yourself before an offer. Each one tells you something a résumé can't, and we're happy to help you plan them.
  • A

    Ride along

Put your finalist in the truck with your best closer for a day of real appointments, or ride with them yourself. Watch the walk-through, the measure and the price conversation. Check with your insurer before a non-employee goes into a customer's home.

  • B

    Role-play your toughest close

Play the homeowner. Hand them your good/better/best and push back: the price, the spouse who isn't home, "we'll think about it." You learn how they sell, not how they interview.

  • C

Ask your own questions of a former manager

We check references before you meet anyone, but if you want to hear it yourself, ask about cancels, how they work a rehash and what they do when the leads are bad. Ask whether they'd hire them again.

  • D

Walk them through the pay plan

The draw, the commission rate, SPIFFs and the day commission pays. A rep who understands the plan before they start isn't surprised by the first check.

Before the first call

What we need from you, and what you get back.

What we need from you

Rough numbers are fine. We’ll fill the gaps on the call.

The seat
Trade, role, territory and how many reps you need.
Your lead flow
Issued leads a week, and the split between tech-generated, marketed and self-gen leads.
Your numbers
Average ticket, the close rate your reps run today, and your cancel rate if you track it.
The pay plan
Base or draw, commission rate, SPIFFs, and when commission actually pays out.
Your interview loop
Who meets the reps, and how quickly you can make a call.
Why the last rep left
If there was one. It tells us what to screen around.

FAQ

Questions about the process.

  • How long does a search take?

We aim to put the first candidate in front of you within 7 days of getting your job description, and a typical hire takes 21 days. A comfort advisor seat in a large metro is a different search from a canvassing crew in a small market, so it varies, and we’ll tell you what to expect for your seat on the first call.

  • Do you check references or run role-plays?

We check references, along with close-rate history and pay history from commission statements or W-2s. Interviews, ride-alongs and role-plays are yours to run, and they're worth running. This page has a simple way to do each.

  • Who employs the rep?

You do. Reps are hired directly by your company, on your pay plan. Whether that's W-2 or 1099 is your decision, and worth checking with your accountant.

  • What if nobody on the shortlist is right?

Tell us why. What was missing usually says more about the seat than the brief did. And since you pay only when you hire, passing on a shortlist costs you nothing.

  • Can we hire for more than one territory?

Yes. List each seat and territory in your brief. If you run several branches, see how we hire across multiple locations.

  • Do you place appointment setters or inside sales reps?

No. Level places field salespeople in the US who run appointments in the homeowner's home, plus the sales managers who lead them and the canvassers who book their inspections.

  • What should I have ready for the first call?

Your lead flow (issued leads a week and where they come from), average ticket, the close rate your reps run now, your pay plan, and why the last rep left. Rough numbers are fine.

Start with the seat you need filled.
