Window & door sales recruiting

Hire window and door consultants who close on the first visit.

Level helps window and door companies hire in-home sales consultants, canvassers and sales managers who close more of their demos, and keep them closed. We headhunt proven one-call sellers and check every rep's close-rate history, pay history and references before you meet them.In-Home Sales ConsultantsCanvassersSales Managers

Benchmarks

What good looks like in windows and doors

Windows and doors is one of the few trades with measured benchmarks. Siro analyzed 53,389 recorded in-home consultations across trades between April and August 2026.

Track these yourself

  • Issued leads
  • Demo rate
  • Net sales per issued lead
  • Cancel rate
  • Credit-reject rate
Siro counts a visit as a close when it moved toward a sale, not only signed contracts, and it treats small gaps between groups as noise. The metrics to track yourself are the trade's standard numbers, but nobody publishes reliable benchmarks for them.

How we screen

How we screen window and door sellers

Before a rep reaches your shortlist, we check three things: close-rate history, pay history and references. Your interview time goes on sellers whose numbers hold up.
01Verified

Close-rate history

Close rate on issued leads, with the demo rate behind it. A consultant who closes most of their demos but only gets to present half the time is a different problem from one who demos everything and closes little. We verify the close-rate history. Ask about the demo rate under it, and look for a strong close rate together with a low cancel rate.

02Verified

Pay history

Pay history from commission statements or W-2s. In one-call shops the statements can also show volume that cancelled or failed financing, which matters as much as the gross.

We run reference checks to confirm the history and track record the rep gave us, so you can interview with confidence.

For your interviews: our advice

Steps worth running yourself

Our checks confirm the numbers. Your interviews show you how a rep sells and whether they fit your team. We don’t run role-plays, ride-alongs or trial days, but they’re well worth your time. Here’s what we’d look for.

  • Role-play a full demo with a price that needs financing. The good ones make the monthly payment feel normal, not like a trick.
  • Ask what they did with last month's no-sales. A consultant with a rehash habit gets paid twice on the same lead.
  • Ask what share of their sales cancel inside the cooling-off window. Under the FTC rule, a buyer can cancel a sale made at home within 3 business days. High-pressure closers can post a big close rate and still cost you money in cancels and reviews.
  • Bring finalists on a ride-along with your top consultant. Watch how they talk to the homeowner in the driveway, not just at the table.

Pay plans

How window companies pay consultants

Here's how the published home improvement plans break down for window and door consultants.
  • Percent of sale

6-12% of the sale is the typical home improvement range (Pro Remodeler, 2018). Where a rep lands depends on the product, lead quality and how much sales support the company gives.

  • Draw against commission

An advance against future commission so a new consultant can get through the ramp. How a draw works.

  • SPIFFs and bonuses

Small cash bonuses for selling a specific product or hitting a demo target. Useful when you're pushing a new door line or a premium glass package. More on SPIFFs.

Pay reality

What window and door sales reps earn, per BLS

BLS doesn't publish a windows-only series. The two nearest groups of W-2 sales reps, May 2025:

Read this before you quote the table

BLS counts W-2 employees only. Reps paid on a 1099 are left out, so the top of the market runs higher than this table. Job postings show what an employer advertised, not what anyone earned.

When to hire

When a weak seat costs more than an empty one

The math on a bottom-quartile consultant is real. Siro puts the value of lifting one to the median at $761 per appointment. Multiply that by the appointments that rep runs in a month and you'll see what the seat costs you.

Add a consultant when issued leads go unrun or get pushed a week out. A homeowner who has to wait for a window quote may get one from someone else first.

Window and door sales consultant

Owner, window and door replacement company · Kansas City, MO

A window company's cancels were creeping up, and reviews had started to mention pushy salespeople.

We headhunted a one-call-close consultant from a national window brand with a strong close rate and one of the lowest cancel rates on his team.

By month four he was the company's top closer, with fewer cancels than anyone on the team.

FAQ

Hiring window and door sales reps: questions owners ask.

  • What close rate should a window consultant have?

Siro's recorded consultations show 29.1% for windows and doors, the highest of the trades it reports, against 26.9% across all trades. Siro counts a visit as a close when it moved toward a sale, so signed-contract rates can run lower.

  • Should I hire one-call closers or reps who leave a quote?

That's your sales model, so it's your call. If you run a one-call close, hire people who have done it: they run a full presentation, measure accurately, handle the price conversation and the "we want to think about it", and leave with a signed contract without high pressure. Asking for the order on the first visit is a skill many leave-behind sellers never built.

  • What do window and door reps earn?

BLS doesn't publish a windows-only series. Sales reps at exterior contractors earn a median $69,990, and at residential building firms, which include remodelers, $64,150. Both leave out reps paid on a 1099.

  • How should cancels and credit rejects affect commission?

Decide up front whether you pay on signed, funded or installed jobs, and put chargebacks for cancels and credit rejects in writing. A buyer can cancel an in-home sale within 3 business days under the FTC rule, so the window is short but real.

  • Do you recruit canvassers for window companies?

Yes. Canvassers who book in-home appointments at the door, so you have your own lead flow next to paid leads and your consultants' calendars stay full.

  • How fast can you fill a window consultant seat?

We aim to have a first candidate in front of you within 7 days of onboarding and getting your job description. A typical hire takes 21 days. Both vary by role and market, and on whether you need one-call experience specifically.

  • Do you place sales managers for window companies?

Yes. Managers who run a board on demo rate and net sales per issued lead, and who can still run a lead when it counts. Same three checks: close-rate history, pay history and references.

Tell us your products, lead flow and pay plan. We'll headhunt consultants already selling windows and doors in the home at the strongest companies in your market, check their close rate, pay history and references, and introduce you to the ones who'll close more of your demos.
