How it works
Home service companies use SPIFFs to steer behavior: a bonus for each maintenance agreement sold at the table, for a premium product line, for a same-day proposal, or for hitting a weekly lead goal. They’re usually small, paid fast, and easy to start and stop.
JobNimbus reports that roofers who layer SPIFF incentives on top of commission close Up to 22% more jobs than roofers relying on commission alone. The page gives no sample size or year, so treat it as a vendor’s figure.
Why it matters when you hire
Mention SPIFFs in the offer, but don’t use them to patch a thin plan. Experienced reps judge a job on commission rate, lead flow and how fast they get paid, and late or short commission checks lose good reps faster than anything else. SPIFFs work best as the extra, on the products you most want sold.
Ask candidates which SPIFFs they earned before. It tells you what their last company rewarded, and what habits they’ll bring with them.
