One-call close

A one-call close is an in-home sales process where the rep qualifies the homeowner, presents, prices and asks for a signed contract in a single appointment, instead of leaving a quote behind.

How it works

It’s the standard model in windows, siding, bath remodeling and much of HVAC replacement. The rep needs every decision-maker at the table, a full presentation with options, financing ready to go, and a price they can stand behind that night. The alternative is a leave-behind quote, where the homeowner gets a number and time to shop it.

A signature isn’t the finish line. Under the FTC Cooling-Off Rule, buyers have 3 business days to cancel most sales made in their home, so one-call closers are judged on jobs that stick, not just contracts signed.

Why it matters when you hire

Ask whether the candidate’s last company ran one-call closes, and how they handle the “we need to think about it” moment. A rep who has only ever left quotes behind will need extra coaching to close at the table.

High-pressure closers cost you in cancels and reviews. The one-call closer you want pairs a strong close rate with a low cancel rate, and leaves the homeowner glad they signed.
